General maintenance of your DOLLE loft ladder

A loft ladder with a staircase usually does not require any maintenance beyond regular cleaning with a cloth well wrung out in soapy water as needed. However, with relatively little effort, you can keep the ladder’s functions intact.

Ladder

Wooden ladders should be inspected for moisture damage and rot on the steps and stringers. Wipe the ladder with a cloth well wrung out in soapy water. Ensure no water remains on the surface to avoid moisture damage.

Aluminium ladders are cleaned similarly with a cloth well wrung out in soapy water. Wipe dry afterward to prevent lime stains or rust formation.

Hatch

Clean with a cloth well wrung out in soapy water to remove dust and dirt. Avoid saturating the material to prevent damage.

Spring Adjustment

If the loft hatch falls down too quickly, you can tighten the spring by shortening or repositioning the chain or similar mechanism attached near the upper frame.

Snap Lock Adjustment

  • Lock strike plate placement:

    1. Carefully loosen the two screws holding the lock strike plate.

    2. Move the strike plate up or down depending on whether the lock should engage earlier or later.

  • Test and adjust:

    1. Close the loft hatch and check if the lock functions correctly.

    2. Repeat the adjustment if necessary.

  • Tightening: When the lock engages correctly, tighten the screws to secure the lock’s position.

  • Lubrication: Apply a small amount of acid-free oil to the moving parts. Wipe off excess oil with a dry cloth to avoid dirt buildup.

Hinges and Lock Fittings

  • Clean hinges and lock fittings of dust and dirt.
  • Lubricate with acid-free oil to maintain smooth operation.
  • Apply oil sparingly and wipe off any excess with a cloth.
